Founded in 1985 by the original Department of Management in the Wuxi University of Light Industry, the Business School was created in 2001, when Wuxi University of Light Industry, Jiangnan School and Wuxi College of Education (formerly the Wuxi area of Donghua University) were consolidated. The school focuses on management and economics, offering five first degree majors, namely, International Business, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting and Industrial Engineering. In addition, there are first level masters’ degree programs of Applied Economics, Business Administration and Management Science and Engineering, as well as MBA and Logistics Engineering. Apart from masters’ programs, the school has a second level doctoral degree program of Food Culture and Trade in cooperation with the school of Food Science and Technology. Currently, the school has about 3000 students, over 40 from overseas; it has 2500 graduate students, 500 undergraduates and the remainder doctoral students.

Implementing its talent strategies, the Business School has 108 full-time staff members, including 17 professors, 56 associate professors, and 48 Doctor and Postgraduate tutors. Among them are three winners of the “New Century Excellent Talents”, one candidate for the Jiangsu Province “333” Talent Project and one trained for the “Six Talents Summit”.

The school aims to increase the standard of training for talented people and the level of scientific research. It has more than 40 provincial educational projects and, as a contribution to economic construction and social development, has published more than 600 research papers and more than 42 academic works and textbooks, over 60 of which have won awards at the state, provincial and ministry level. The Business School has set up the “Jiangsu Research Center for Food Security” and the “China Research Center of Strategy for Internet Development”, and has established four interdisciplinary research centers with local governments to build the brand of the modern university. Every year, over 54 national seminars have actively renewed the strong academic tradition.

In fostering outstanding talents and creating a talent training mode, the school pays close attention to its students’ moral education, practical abilities, and the development of the capacity to innovate. There are three provincial enterprise postgraduate work stations, a provincial economic management experimental teaching center, eight high-tech logistics experimental centers and more than 60 teaching and research practice bases. Our students have always been praised in national competitions, such as the Business Plan Competition of “Challenge Cup”. They also stand above their peers in voluntary activities and cultural and sports events. They are highly thought of by employers.

As part of the open running of the school, we have formed a Board of Directors, which consists of well-known scholars, experts and entrepreneurs, who look after its educational side and are willing to offer opportunities for students to improve their overall skills. Many famous enterprises, such as the Hong Kong LEO Group and Far East Group, have endowed scholarships for needy students. To accelerate the speed of educational internationalization, the school has worked with universities in Australia and Canada to jointly instruct international talents in research, and has been involved in international exchanges, leading on to long-term cooperation.

Over the past thirty years, the school has made every effort to foster a management elite of outstanding talents in economics and management, thereby establishing a leading school that is widely recognized for research achievements and its international standards.
