The Finance Research Institute of Jiangnan University or Finance Research Center of Wuxi (hereinafter referred to the Institute), a standing council unit of the Insurance Association of Wuxi and the Finance Association of Wuxi, council member of Shanghai Economic Review of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, cooperative unit of World Urban Services Alliance and strategic partner of economy channel of Wuxi TV, is established under joint construction of Wuxi Municipal Government and Jiangnan University in September 2002. Renowned economist Xu Dianqing, a tenured professor at the University of Western Ontario in Canada, is the honorary director and part-time professor of the Institute. The Institute holds high-level academic activities such as the "Wuxi Finance Lecture" and the bi-weekly academic forum regularly. It has good academic relations with universities, government agencies and research institutes, and maintains close cooperation with financial institutions and enterprises in Wuxi. It has maintained regular academic ties with China Center for Economic Research, Peking University, Institute for Financial Studies Fudan University and Business School of Soochow University and entered teaching and research cooperation with University of Western Ontario, Windsor University, Newport University, Business School of Centenary College, and co-organized the first PhD program of Business Administration in Wuxi. In 2016, the Finance Research Institute of Jiangnan University, Academy of Macroeconomic Research of Jiangsu Development and Reform Committee and Jiangyin Development and Reform Committee jointly set up the Industry Development and Regional Innovation Joint Research Base for South Jiangsu Province.

Xu Dianqing, Professor of University of Western Ontario, Canada, together with Professor Chen Jian, President of Jiangnan University, jointly inaugurated the Finance Research Institute of Jiangnan University.

Among the 15 members of the Finance Research Institute of Jiangnan University (Finance Research Center of Wuxi), there are four professors, six associate professors and five lecturers with doctor degrees.

In the recent five years, the Institute undertook seven national research projects from the National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Fund, the National Soft Science Research Program, ten provincial research projects from MOE’s Humanities and Social Sciences Fund, Social Sciences Fund, Natural Science Fund and Soft Science Research Program of Jiangsu Province, three bidding projects of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Wuxi Municipality and five commissioned projects from Wuxi Development and Reform Committee and Wuxi Financial Affairs Office. It has released the Wuxi Finance Development Index and published the Development Research Report on Wuxi Finance and Listed Companies. In addition to the five provincial, seven ministry and department-level rewards on science researches and five published academic monographs, the Institute has published 40 CSSCI papers in first-rate domestic periodicals such as theEconomic Research Journal, Journal of Financial Research, China Economic Quarterly, Chinese Journal of Management Science, Science Research Management and Quarterly Journal of Finance; and 20 papers in world-renowned SSCI and SCI periodicals including Economic Modelling, Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting & Economics, Pacific Basin Financial Journal, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control and International Journal of Theoretical and Applied Finance.

Finance Research Institute of Jiangnan University (Finance Research Center of Wuxi) has been actively involved in developing local financial industry and financial institutions. The Institute teamed up with Wuxi Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, Academy of Insurance Wuxi, Insurance Association of Wuxi, PICC Jiangsu Branch and Guolian Life Insurance Co., Ltd. to promote life insurance and construction of insurance culture in the region and organized three Culture Construction Training Sessions in Insurance Industry for Wuxi from 2013 to 2015，which greatly improved the industry image in the city. In 2014, the Institute released the Report on the Role of Wuxi Municipal Government in Livelihood Insurance, which has been adopted and applied into business by Wuxi Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, Financial Affairs Office of Wuxi Municipal Government and PICC Wuxi Branch, offering reference for further development of livelihood insurance in Wuxi while generating good social benefits. Having been submitted to the Insurance Society of China by Insurance Society of Jiangsu Province, the research won highly affirmation from Yao Qinghai, President of Insurance Society of China.

Since 2011, the Finance Research Institute of Jiangnan University (Finance Research Center of Wuxi) has released the Ranking of Listed Companies in Wuxi, drawing great attention from enterprises such as Far East Holding Group, HOdo Group, Wuxi Guolian Group and Wuxi Rural Commercial Bank. The Index has been forwarded and reported by people.com.cn, gmw.cn, jschina.com.cn, Wuxi TV, Wuxi Daily, official Weibo account of Wuxi, thmz.com and cqvip.com, gaining conductive social benefits. Many of the Institute’s research papers have been adopted by governmental departments, finance institutions and listed companies, such as Financial Affairs Office of Wuxi Municipality, Wuxi Rural Commercial Bank, Wuxi Double Elephant Micro Fiber Material Co., Ltd., and Wuxi Turbine Blade Co., Ltd., brining excellent economic and social benefits.
